Climate Change in Bangladesh and Its Diverse Effect

Bangladesh will suffer more from climate change than any country in the world. Its effect has already begun to be read. “Bangladesh is at extreme risk,” the world expert agrees. We feel that we have no way to deal with this risk. There has been a lot of uproar in seminars or newspapers about how preparations should be made, but no attention is being given to it in practice.

Climate Change in Bangladesh

The Situation of Bangladesh

On one side in Bangladesh such as Sujala-Sufala, Shashi Shyamala; On the other hand, it is a country suffering from heavy rains, unseasonal rains, and droughts.

The reason is geographical location. Due to its river nature, the soil of Bengal is fertile. No other country in the world like Bangladesh has so many rivers, canals, beel and haus.

This has led to an inevitable impact on the public life, soil and climate of Bengal.

Bangladesh is a seasonal wind-dependent country. There is rain in Bangladesh due to monsoon winds. In agrarian Bangladesh, the monsoon regulates its cultivation, livelihood, trade, and commerce. When the monsoon in Bangladesh is necessary or in small quantities, it is a blessing. And when it is more than what is required, it is a curse. Excessive rainfall is excessive rainfall.

Heavy rains flood, and if there is no rain again, there is drought. Both of them are detrimental and destructive to the country. Floods destroy crops, while droughts burn crops. This affects food grains to drinking water. It caused famine. In addition, kalbisakhi’s violence and tides became the cause of the disaster.

In addition to natural disasters such as rains, droughts, floods and hurricanes, climate change will lead to the biggest long-term crisis, with 18 percent of southern Bangladesh slowly sinking and 20 million people displaced. As a result of the adverse impact on livelihoods, the losses to Bangladesh cannot be covered with money.

Bangladesh Climate is Changing Rapidly

Climate change in a place means an average change of at least 30 years in a weather subject. The most important regulator for measuring climate change is the change in night temperature. Because traffic and factories remain closed at night.

Then the earth starts losing its stored temperature. Climate change can be calculated from the temperature at that time. The periphery of our winter is getting smaller. In the last 56 years we have calculated the temperature for 21 places, we can say that the length of winter has gone down.

The average rainfall remains unchanged, but the number of days and days is increasing without rain. This effect is more prevalent in the north-western part of the country. Note that a study found that there was a possible situation before the rains, in the last half of July and in the first half of August, it has now spread from the last half of June to 10 days of July.

And the rest of the rain is going to end in the last part of August. Rain is not what it should be. So, the time when floods are going to come or the time when people are ready to deal with floods is getting disrupted.

As a result, the amount of damage is increasing. So, it is having a detrimental impact on our farming system. Many cyclones have come recently. The intensity of cyclones has increased. With the increase in the intensity of cyclones in our coastal defense dams, the coastal areas are getting damaged by strong waves.

The brackish water is entering the agricultural land and the agricultural system is getting demolished.

Where salt water is being mixed with sweet or freshwater, the density of water is changing. As the amount of sedimentation in the river increases, the water of the river will be washed away and water logging will occur. As a result, the amount of water logging area will increase.

As the sea surface temperature rises, the low pressure will become stronger and the cyclone will arise. 20 years ago, the average pressure in the Bay of Bengal was no more than five to six. Now, on average, there are 12 to 14 depressions in a year.

As a result, fishermen are not able to kill deep-sea fish for a long time during the monsoon season. To return to the coast due to repeated storm warnings. As a result, their profession is suffering.

What to Do to Save Environment in Bangladesh

The Government will have to adopt an integrated scheme on all issues including agriculture, food, health infrastructure by creating a climate-risk map of every region of the country.

The local government needs to be more involved. There is a need to adopt priority schemes keeping in view the views of the local people to address the local issues.

The forecasting system needs to be developed in agriculture like the weather. No proper scheme of course development has been adopted so far. If we do not make our student society efficient and aware, it will not be possible to protect the country from the harmful effects of climate change. Teachers need to enhance their skills.

Compared to the amount of research data published by private organizations on climate change, none of the research results from public universities have yielded results. Community-based and adaptation measures have to be taken.

To adapt to the unfavorable environment, the seeds of such crops should be spread everywhere. Infrastructure development should be done in the coastal areas. Arrangements have to be made for the construction and rehabilitation of new shelters.

Final Word: Once, people had the idea that it was most important to dominate nature in any way.

Today, that perception has changed. Because it is seen that in the course of establishing this domination, people have created a threat to themselves by destroying forests, stopping the flow of rivers, disturbing the balance of the environment.

So, today, not dominated by nature, people want to have friendly relations with nature. And trying to balance nature with the help of nature so as to pursue its way of life toward the beautiful future of the future.
